Public car park over US 17, housing estate
MLADOST IV
GENERAL PART
The public car park is constructed over Underground station 17:
- the last underground station on the first metro diameter of the Sofia underground. The station is situated in housing estate “MLADOST IV" and it is near to Sofia's ring-road. "Business center – Sofia", large commercial and amusement complexes are also situated there.
The car-park is supposed to be used as a "buffer" for the automobiles using the ring-road as an access to the city.
The size of the car-park is strictly limited by the underground station and the depot after it.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project consists of 9 overground floors. It is stipulated that one floor above the underground station will be constructed and parking will be on 7 levels (including the roof on level 6). The car-park is surfed by 4 access platforms situated outside of the building .Two of the access platforms are straight and are situated along the long facades of the building. These access platforms are for entrance and they serve the 7 levels to the car park.
The south access platform serves mainly the traffic from the ring-road (by setting up of a local roadway). The north access platform serves the traffic coming from housing estate "MLADOST"
The exit access platforms are two and they are twisted, situated outside the building on the east and west sides.
On level +4.65 (the underground station floor) a big commercial complex consisting of 29 shops is situated. Its function is to be a connection between this floor and the underground station floor by staircases and escalators, located in the middle part of the building.
7 pedestrian crossings to the north and one to the south faciliate the pedestrians’ access from outside.
7 staircases, situated on the north side of the building realize the vertical communication between the floors over the underground station.
The floors of the car park start from the 3rd overground floor - one level above the commercial complex, and they are 7. Each car-park floor is conventionally divided into 7 frames. The number of the parking lot is 1588. The plan of the building is rectangular and the design is simplified. Therefore in the dimensional decision of the building we were looking for some interesting accents.
The twisted access platforms to the east and to the west and the straight access platforms on the south and north facades enrich the diminution and contribute to a better plastic effect of the multilevel car park. The access platforms are covered with horizontal armored concrete slabs, which additionally contribute to the plastic dimensional effects.
The staircases come out of the total dimension of the building and lead to the top parking floor. We offer a maximum glazing of the staircases, which are an important architectural element. The shopping level will be glazed to maximum as well.
The top floor will be covered with wavy tents, thus strengthening the plastic of the building more and are a finishing element of the dimensional composition.
As to provoce the aesthetical sense of the visitors we suggest the building to be designed in the 7 rainbow colors. Every block of the building will be painted in different color, and with each higher level the color will be lighter than the previous. We suggest that painting the visible armored concrete of the parking floors should do this.
An impressive accent in the architectural view of the car park is the empty space (a pierce) in the building's dimension, which includes three floors in height and 30m in width. This place will become a green oasis, enriched with green vegetation. The roofs of the access platforms and of the staircases will be green too.
The building construction will be of armored concrete, without beams. The height between the parking floors is 2.80m and the commercial floor - 3.60m. The minimum height of the safety railings is 1.10 m
We hope that the building project, designed in this way will manage to complete its functional purpose and to satisfy the demands of the visitors.
